Imagine your child connecting with the rich heritage and vibrant traditions of our region. At Crescent Valley School, our Indigenous Language and Culture Program (ILC) makes this possible!
Bringing Indigenous Knowledge to Life: Thanks to a strong partnership with the Hinton Friendship Centre and the support of Heritage Canada, the ILC program introduces our elementary students to the beauty and significance of local Indigenous languages and cultures.
Your Child Will Explore:
- The Plains Cree (Y dialect) language and the traditions of the Plains Cree people.
- The Saulteaux language and their unique cultural heritage.
- Michif, the distinct language and culture of the Métis people.
Our engaging lessons cover fascinating topics like our shared local history, important cultural customs, local wildlife, the talents of Indigenous artists, delicious traditional foods, and meaningful ceremonies.
Program Highlights:
- Designed for students in Kindergarten through Grade 7.
- Benefits the entire student population.
- Provides 30 minutes of dedicated Indigenous Language and Culture instruction each day for every student.
We believe this program offers an invaluable opportunity for our students to develop understanding, respect, and a deeper connection to the Indigenous heritage of our community.
